Why You Should Look Beyond the Memes About the Storming of Area 51

With proposed events such as the storming of Area 51, there’s pretty much no telling what will follow on from it; whether that’s Elon Musk getting excited to watch the fall out too, or the warning that ISIS may be behind the Facebook event. But it should have probably come as no surprise that there’s been plenty of memes to try and squeeze the most hilarity out of the situation. But is it really that funny? Probably not. Still, we rely on dark humour to process the fact that we know that the government is lying to us. The government know that we know that they’re lying, but they also know we’re absolutely powerless to do anything about it – aside from frantically posting puns on Twitter in the hope of plenty of retweets and being relevant in the world.

I’ve felt a bit guilty for my hope for the event going ahead considering that it’s likely to become a suicide mission for those idiotic to try after people have previously been gunned down for attempting to gain access. But perhaps the event attendees are the same people who share nihilist memes about wanting to die, perhaps storming Area 51 is a way to go out with some form of honour. I think I've given up on trying to understand the motives of humanity.

I’m all for a mass assembly of the people against the government, but of all the things which collective power could achieve, ‘seeing them aliens’ should be pretty far down on the list because knowledge is no longer power - not in the way that it used to be. We know that records of abuse of immigrants in the I.C.E camps are now being wiped clean – including sexual assault and assault leading to deaths, but what can we do with that information? Not much apart from taking some extra weight on our shoulders as we collect reasons to detest Trump and the rest of his administration and feel a little more helpless.

Why is the Storming of Area 51 Happening?

The recent interest around Area 51 stemmed from the 2018 Netflix documentary Bob Lazar: Area 51 & Flying Saucers’ which is still available to watch today. The documentary sought to ‘weaponize’ the viewer's curiosity, and it’s safe to say that it was successful in doing so.

Bob Lazar also appeared on Joe Rogan’s podcast alongside Jeremy Corbell and shared his story with millions more viewers. For years Bob Lazar has been regarded as one of the most credible sources and whistle-blowers in regard to Area 51, alien technology and alien contact, but only recent years has he received any amount of respect outside of the circles of conspiracy theorists.

If you’ve already checked out the documentary, you’ll know that it comes with a fairly potent serving of existentialism. It alludes to how much of our realities have been socially constructed, that fate is fiction, and we are smaller than we could ever want to believe. Lazar has revealed that the government is hiding alien and tech and has been in contact with extraterrestrial beings for quite some time.

Daring to trust Bob Lazar may be enough to put you in the ‘tin foil hat’ category in most people’s minds, yet, it would be more naive at this point to believe the government rather than a man who has put their life on the line to share with the rest of the world the truth which they learned from working at Area 51.

Area 51 Meme

I know it’s easier to hit *laugh react* on a meme rather than spending 90 minutes watching a documentary. Yet, it is our hesitation to only digest bite-sized media which has been created to make us laugh instead of expanding our mind with the information that’s out there – it is totally up to you if you want to believe it. But keeping your head in the sand about the fact that the government is lying to us is never going to pan out well.

Who Really Created the Area 51 Facebook Event?

Whether it really was started as a joke which got out of hand or someone who is determined to find out the truth behind the government’s lies we can never really say for sure.

News sensationalists the Express have even warned that ISIS may be behind the storming of Area 51, but with speculation on who ISIS really is, it’s easy to get lost in the post-truth world.

An army intelligence specialist Thornton D. Barnes who has spent time at Area 51 has attempted to use terrorist paranoia to make people feel a little more hesitant about heading down to the desert in September. It’s fairly concerning to note that this is how army officials have perceived the storming.

If you think that the American government values the lives of its citizens to spare bullets, you’ve got another thing coming. There’s already been a fair warning of the on-site artillery, the bombing range, K-9 units, armed land vehicles and armed helicopters.  It’s really no wonder that the guy responsible for the event posted the following statement after the event went viral:

“Hello US government, this is a joke, and I do not actually intend to go ahead with this plan. I just thought it would be funny and get me some thumbsy uppies on the Internet. I’m not responsible if people decide to actually storm area 51.”

As of Thursday Evening (18/07/2019) there are 1.6 million people ‘attending’ on Facebook and another 1.2 million ‘interested’.

Even if Area 51 doesn’t get stormed on September 20th, 2019, there’ll still be one hell of a Twitter storm.
